Newsletters #2
Here is my 2nd newsletter dealing with the WSH Bazaar and WSH
topic. This newsletter is a bit shorter than letter 1, because I
have a lot of other task on my item list.
New samples and controls within the WSH Bazaar
Within the last days I have implemented a few samples and some
new controls to demonstrate the behavior and the potential of the
WSH. Here are some new topics:
- WSHExtend: This control is now available in version 2.0.
Beside an extensive error checking for run-time errors
and wrong parameters, this control provides now also some
new methods to check whether a window handle is valid and
whether a window is minimized. The full specification is
contained within the WSH Tutorial, a short specification
may be found in the Programmers
Reference.
- WSHForms: A new control allowing a WSH Script to display
an about dialog or a simple form with two text boxes. The
form may be used for a user login with password
detection. The Programmers Reference and some samples may
be found within the WSH
Bazaar.
- WSHSystem: A new control allowing a WSH Script to
retrieve the Windows version. The Programmers Reference
and some samples may be found within the WSH
Bazaar.
- The "Windows Scripting Host Tutorial" is now
available in English in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. A table
of contend and a sneak preview may be downloaded from the
WSH Bazaar. Chapter 2 of the sneak preview contains a
helpful description of development tools and debugging
techniques.
Further samples and details may be found also in my WSH Bazaar. Have a look at the
sample page and at the WSHExtend Programmers Reference.
Planned topics for newsletter #3 and future newsletters:
- Some view behind the BrowseForFolder feature of the
Windows shell
- A discussion of the Shell object and its methods to
manipulate the Windows desktop
- How to launch applications invisible
- How to access open windows, switch them into foreground,
minimize them and more...
- ....
