Das Surface Pro 6 wurde ja erst im Oktober 2018 als neues Modell durch Microsoft vorgestellt (siehe Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2 und Surface Studio 2) und ist nun in den USA erhältlich. Bei MVP-Kollegin Barb Bowman bin über den nachfolgenden Tweet auf das Thema aufmerksam geworden.

Dort spielt sie die Frage an Panos Panay von Microsoft weiter, da die Problematik noch nicht wirklich endgültig geklärt ist.

Worum geht es genau?
Das Kürzel HDR steht für High Dynamic Range, Anzeigegeräte müssen einen größeren Dynamikumfang darstellen können. Das Ganze verspricht bessere Kontraste, höhere Helligkeit und eine breitere Farbpalette. Es geht darum, dass Filme und TV-Sendungen (4K HDR Videos) noch lebenswirklicher wirken sollen. Auf Microsoft Answers beschwert sich dieser Benutzer, dass sein Surface Pro 6-Modell offenbar keine HDR-Inhalte streamen kann:

I just bought a Surface Pro 6 (i7-8650U – 16 GB RAM) and can't stream HDR content towards a 4k OLED LG monitor.
My monitor is capable of HDR, since I use it with my XBOX ONE X (the HDR icon correctly appears).
I have connected that monitor to my surface pro 6 (using the same Xbox one x cable and TV port) and indeed I can see that the PC is able to select 4k 60hz, so cables and tv are fine.
Then I enabled stream HDR on the HDR settings in windows.
After that I installed the HEVC codecs from the Microsoft store as suggested in: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4040547/windows-10-display-requirements-hdr-video
after all this I still can see 8 bit color depth in my advanced display settings for the 4k external monitor instead of the required 10 bit color depth for HDR.
I know the integrated Intel UHD 620 can stream hdr but all the suggestions didn't work.
what did I do wrong?

but couldn't see the option "Windows HD Color settings". why isn't it there?
Im Verlauf des Theads stellt sich dann heraus, dass für das Streamen von HDR-Inhalten bestimmte Versionen des DisplayPorts mit 10-Bit-Support benötigt werden.
- DisplayPort Version 1.2 unterstützt nur 8 Bit
- DisplayPort Version 1.4 unterstützt 10 Bit
Nur mit einem DisplayPort Version 1.4 wäre also die Unterstützung für 10 Bit gegeben. Die spannende Frage ist, ob das Surface Pro 6 einen DisplayPort Version 1.4 aufweist. Nur dann gibt es zumindest theoretisch die Chance auf ein HDR-Streaming. In diesem Microsoft-Dokument habe ich nur Hinweise auf DisplayPort Version 1.2 gefunden, so dass kein HDR-Streaming möglich ist. Aber das Ganze ist noch nicht offiziell geklärt – es könnte auch ein anderes Problem vorliegen, so dass das Surface Pro 6 kein HDR unterstützt.
